The Teaching System - Part II

In the second part of the system the child begins the process of learning to link different types of words to each other. The previously learned animal names (nouns) are each matched with a related action word (verb). Examples are dog/bark, frog/leap, lion/roar and cat/meow.

As with Part 1 of the system, there is an accompanying teaching book entitled Sounds into Syllables® Animals in Action which similarly incorporates textured words and colored drawings of the animals in their passive and active states. The sound effects CD can be utilized in Part 2 as many of the sounds the animals make are verbs. The child learns the related verbs in the same way he/she learned the nouns.

Color coding is also introduced to distinguish nouns (red words) from verbs (green words). To establish the conceptual relationship between the animal and its action, an animated computer program has been designed specifically for the teaching system. Through the animation the child learns and experiences the relationship between the verb and the noun.

In addition, the animation is designed to have a social component by having the animal interact with other animals or express emotions pertaining to the action. (Example: the dog/bark combination depicts one dog barking which in turn triggers a number of other dogs to bark and all express different facial expressions and body language). As with Part 1, there is a companion workbook.
